History

Rockhopper was founded in 2004 to explore for oil and gas in the Falkland Islands.[3] It received a listing on the AIM market in 2005.[3] In May 2010 the company made the first oil discovery in the Falkland Islands in well 14/10-2 on the Sea Lion target.[3][4] An update of the first appraisal drill was released in March 2011 indicating a significant reservoir package with a downhole mini drill stern test flowing oil at better rates in a September 2010 flow test. Confidence in the commerciality of the Sea Lion discovery was increased by this first appraisal,[5] although test drilling continues to establish whether the discovery represents a commercial prospect.[6]

Rockhopper is the operator of 4 production licences in which it holds a 100% interest in the North Falkland Basin and in addition has a 7.5% interest in 2 production licences operated by Desire Petroleum.[7]
